Teknofest Robotaxi Competition Has Ended
10 Vehicles Will Be Exhibited in Teknofest Blacksea
The Teams Which Created the Most Unique Software and Have the Best Team Spirit Have Been Announced
Bilişim Vadisi Hosted Autonomous Passenger Car Competition
The Robotaxi competition, where young people who developed unique designs and algorithms in the field of autonomous vehicle technologies competed has ended. 10 vehicles determined as a result of a competition in tricky parkour similar to real parkours will debut at TEKNOFEST, Türkiye’s first Aviation, Aerospace, and Technology Festival. In the competition conducted under the fellowship of TÜBİTAK and HAVELSAN and under the conduction of Bilişim Vadisi, 21 teams competed in the unique vehicle category and 9 teams competed in the ready vehicle category. In the unique vehicle category, Team IMU was chosen as the team creating the most unique software, and Beu Ovat was chosen as the team having the best team spirit. In the ready vehicle category, Raclab was chosen as the team making the most unique software, and Talos was chosen as the team having the best team spirit.
Autonomous Vehicles in Smart Cities
Bilişim Vadisi General Manager A. Serdar İbrahimcioğlu stated that mobility is the leading activity among their work on civilian technologies as Bilişim Vadisi and said “In the smart cities of the future, the leading mobility system will be realized by autonomous vehicles. And we will continue to work for our youth not to be the consumers but to be the producers of this technology. The Robotaxi Autonomous Passenger Car Competition we conducted in 2019 is developing in terms of participation and competition rules every year. This year, parkours were designed in accordance with a real traffic order.”
They Raised Our Hope
General Manager İbrahimcioğlu reminded that Bilişim Vadisi also hosted Togg and said “We continue the projects that aim to carry the positive effects of digital transformation in destructive technologies to every field of civilian technologies. In our country, the competition’s results that intended to increase human value in mobility technologies and allow young people to test themselves in this field raised our hopes again for our youth. I would like to congratulate every team that participated in the competition.”
Traffic Cones Were Replaced by Lanes
The Robotaxi Autonomous Passenger Car Competition which was first held in 2018 within the body of TEKNOFEST, has also been held within the body of TEKNOFEST and under the main sponsorship of Bilişim Vadisi since 2019. The teams competed in a more complicated parkour. Unlike previous years, the competition arena was built more similarly to real traffic. The parkour was expanded. Traffic cones were removed. This year, the autonomous vehicles competed by following the lanes, not the traffic cones.
“Change Lane” Instruction
The parkour, which had one lane in previous years, has now two lanes. The vehicles were given “Change Lane” instruction. The competing vehicles tried to achieve the task of turning a junction. One of the novelties in the course was the disabled parking lot. Autonomous cars were requested to recognize disabled parking signs and not to park there.
Vehicle Support from Bilişim Vadisi
The competition was conducted in two categories. In the unique vehicle category, teams made all the mechanic production and software of the vehicles. In the ready vehicle category, the teams operated their software in autonomous vehicle platforms provided by TEKNOFEST. Ottomotiv, Robo Otomasyon, and Tragger companies provided vehicle support to the competition under the conduction of Bilişim Vadisi.
The Competition of 32 Teams
120 teams applied to the Robotaxi competition. 21 teams competed in the unique vehicle category and 9 teams competed in the ready vehicle category. 275 team members participated in competitor teams. In the unique vehicle category, Team İMU was chosen as the team making the most unique software, and Beu Ovat was chosen as the team having the best team spirit. In ready vehicle category, Raclab was chosen as the team making the most unique software, and Talos was chosen as the team having the best team spirit. 10 vehicles competing in Robotaxi will be exhibited in the thematic exhibition space of TEKNOFEST Blacksea that will be held between August 30-September4 in Samsun.
The Task: Taking and Dropping Off Passengers
High school, associate, undergraduate, and post-graduates, and graduates can participate in the Robotaxi Autonomous Passenger Car Competition as teams or individually. The teams display their autonomous driving performances in parkour reflecting inner-city traffic situations. In the competition, the teams that complete the tasks of taking passengers, dropping passengers off, reaching the parking lot, parking, and following the correct route are considered successful.
Traffic Rules and Obstacles
In the competition, the vehicles travel from one point to another, much like a taxi in a city. During this trip, passengers are taken with the “take passenger” mark and dropped off at the place marked on the route. The vehicles are requested to perceive the mobile or immobile obstacles in the route.
