International Membership for Bilişim Vadisi
Türkiye’s design projection for 2030 is becoming clearer. Türkiye Design Vision 2030 workshop ended. During the two-day workshop, policies and strategies on design were discussed. At the ceremony held before the workshop, Bilişim Vadisi, Türkiye’s technology and innovation hub, became an official member of the World Design Organization (WDO).
Organized by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TURKPATENT), Bilişim Vadisi and the World Design Organization (WDO), Türkiye Design Vision Workshop started at Bilişim Vadisi. Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology, Cemil Başpınar, President of TURKPATENT and David Kusuma, President of WDO attended the inauguration ceremony hosted by Mr. Ahmet Serdar İbrahimcioğlu, General Manager of Bilişim Vadisi.
Private Sector Responds
“As of today, more than 7,700 design personnel are employed in 319 design centers, and nearly 10,000 projects have been completed in these design centers,” said Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology Kacır at the event. Stating that more than 2,300 design projects are ongoing in design centers, Kacır said, “We see that if we take one step, our private sector responds with ten steps.”
Will Reflect In Policies
Mr. Kacır said that they will quickly transform the innovative perspective that will be put forward at the workshop into public policies and added: “We will continue to pave the way for our private sector, entrepreneurs, and all individuals working in the creative industries.”
Will Facilitate Integration
Noting that the Turkish design ecosystem has enormous potential, WDO President David Kusuma stated, “They are capable of producing high-quality goods, so they have a wide-open road ahead of them.” Emphasizing that highly competent experts from all over the world attended the workshop Mr. Kusuma said, “Their participation will facilitate the integration between Türkiye and WDO.”
We Will Discuss Global Trends
Noting that design was positioned as the most important issue in the first strategic plan of Bilişim Vadisi and that the vision for 2030 will be determined in the workshop, A. Serdar İbrahimcioğlu, General Manager of Bilişim Vadisi said, “In our workshop, we will discuss the impact of global trends on Turkish design vision and the expansion of Turkish design to the entire world.” Reminding that the WDO President also attended the workshop. He said, “At this workshop, WDO, one of the most important stakeholders in internationalization, will also share their ideas with us.”
Designers of The Future
Emphasizing that they invited students from design departments of the universities, who will be the designers of the future, as well as professionals, to the workshop, Mr. İbrahimcioğlu said, “The designers of the future will also explain what they expect from the design of the future and what they will do here.”
Vision Document
Noting that they organized an important workshop to prepare Türkiye’s 2030 Design Vision Document for the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, TÜRKPATENT President Başpınar said, “Today, professional organizations related to design, design academics, individual designers, design offices, and representatives will gather here, and we will work for two days to prepare the strategy document that will cover the next seven years.”
Future Trends Discussed
Sertaç Ersayın, a WDO Board Member, stated that the workshop brings together decision-makers, designers, and entrepreneurs, and said, “We will discuss the development of technology, the areas where competition drives us, and future trends.”
Membership Certificate For Bilişim Vadisi
Following the speeches, the certificate was presented to Bilişim Vadisi, the new member of WDO. A. Serdar İbrahimcioğlu, General Manager of Bilişim Vadisi, received his certificate from WDO President David Kusuma. WDO President Kusuma presented badges to representatives from the 12 organizations that were accepted as WDO members.
Award Goes To Sadık Karamustafa
At the ceremony, the winner of the Turkish Design Advisory Council 2023 award was also announced. As a result of the evaluation by the selection committee, criteria such as the originality of his works, innovation, and contributions to the design discipline were taken into consideration and the award was granted to Sadık Karamustafa. Karamustafa was unable to attend the ceremony due to illness, so his daughter Ayşe Karamustafa Türksoy accepted the award from Kacır, Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology.
What Is In The Workshop
After the family photo, the two-day workshop started. All opinions and suggestions regarding the design strategy were thoroughly evaluated during the workshop, which aims to develop Turkish design identity and promote it in the international arena. The workshop was attended by WDO executive and board members, stakeholders, leading industry representatives from Türkiye and around the world, academics, and designers. Sessions titled “Türkiye’s Design Strategy in the Framework of Global Design Trends” and “Design for Unforeseen Conditions” were organized.
WDO Executive Board in Türkiye
Following the workshop, the WDO Executive Board Meeting, which is held in four different regions of the world each year, will be held in Türkiye. WDO, the world’s largest and highest design organization, with headquarters in Montreal, and nearly 200 members and representatives from more than 80 countries, determine new design strategies at these meetings.
