Developing the Digital & Robotic Coding Skills of Instructors and Youth
LTT-1
The LTT-1 training, which was held at the Bilişim Vadisi on 13-19 November 2023, aimed to increase the digital skills of trainers and enable them to use innovative technologies effectively in their educational processes. Throughout the programme, participants developed various projects with tools such as mBlock, Scratch and Tinkercad, strengthening their competencies to guide their students in more creative and effective ways.
This training increased the technical know-how of the trainers and contributed to their becoming more confident and competent in classroom practices. At the end of the training, the participants reached the competences to lead in digital education and had the opportunity to bring innovative approaches to education and training processes.
Day 1
The Bilişim Vadisi Trainer Training commenced with a concise overview of the LMS system and the training materials. Participants were briefed on the resources that would be utilized throughout the training. Practical applications were developed, including lighting an LED using the Red-Kit training material and the mBlock program, lighting an LED with a button, and implementing sequential LED lighting with buttons and switches. The training emphasized essential concepts such as input-output units, digital data pins, and variables. The day concluded upon the successful completion of the training sessions.
Day 2
Throughout the day, various programs and activities focused on introducing the concept of algorithms were presented, with particular attention given to exercises suitable for younger age groups. Short exercises were conducted using tools such as Toxicode and Google Blockly. Participants were introduced to the Scratch program, gaining insights into its interface and features. Subsequently, brief project examples, including parrot flying, interactive question-and-answer games, and boomballoon, were completed. Key programming concepts such as variables, loops, and conditions were taught. An interactive piano project was also completed using the Wood-Kit Fun training set. In addition, the Tinkercad program was introduced, enabling participants to create 3D designs of a grape and Pacman. The day’s activities culminated with a technical tour of companies in Bilişim Vadisi and 42 École.
Day 3
During the day, participants engaged in activities centered around drawing with the Scratch program, applying movement and rotation blocks. The connection between mathematical operations and coding was highlighted throughout the sessions. The Bat Catching project was successfully completed using the Wood-Kit Fun sets. Further, additional projects were developed using components such as potentiometers, RGB LEDs, and buzzers, all integrated with the Red-Kit training materials. The day’s program concluded upon the successful completion of these projects.
Day 4
Several projects were implemented using the Red-Kit materials, incorporating a distance sensor, DHT temperature sensor, and LCD display. Emphasis was placed on integrating the required libraries for these components and exploring their potential applications in real-world contexts. Additionally, business card and presentation designs were developed utilizing the Canva application. The session also introduced the Small Basic program, with detailed explanations provided on the Textwindow command and conditional structures. The day’s activities concluded with the completion of these trainings.
Day 5
Red-Kit eğitim materyali kullanılarak Mblock programında LDR (ışık sensörü), servo motor ve PIR (hareket sensörü) gibi komponentlerle çeşitli projeler geliştirildi. Small Basic programı kullanılarak koşul ve döngü yapıları (if, else, for, while) ile graphicwindow komutuna geçiş özellikleri anlatıldı. Gün, bu eğitimlerle sona erdi.
Day 6
On this day, participants focused on designing and completing the coding process for a Flappy Bird game using Scratch, with a particular emphasis on coding backgrounds. A capstone project was also designed and coded using the Wood-Kit Fun training set, incorporating code blocks that had been previously learned. A project was developed using the Red-Kit set and an RFID component, with detailed explanations provided on adding different libraries and their applications. Additionally, an Automatic Parking Sensor project, which combined a servo motor, distance sensor, and LCD screen components, was successfully completed. The day concluded with the finalization of these projects.
Day 7
On the final day of the training process, all lessons were completed using block-based coding. In the last stage of the training, an introduction to text-based coding was conducted, during which project examples were developed using the Red-Kit. This phase aimed to provide teachers with an initial understanding of text-based coding and prepare them to advance the coding processes they had learned. Additionally, a detailed presentation was given on how to use the Et-Edu LMS system, which is available for teachers to use free of charge. The day concluded with the distribution of certificates.
